Before our jobs, we are people. So, when I think of success, I don’t measure it by career milestones, I didn’t even plan to be a full-time actor haha. I measure it by all the reasons I fell in love with acting in the first place; I measure it by the amount of camaraderie with the team, the quality of the discussions, the energy on set, in the rehearsal room and ultimately, I always wonder; am I connecting with people, am I communicating effectively, am I learning about the world, am I getting better at my craft, and am I learning about myself as a person? Process. Personal growth.

This was during Tech Week of Mergers and Accusations. Sitting on the floor, no glam makeup, using my reusable chopsticks (which I was quite proud of myself for sticking to! But i know, styrofoam box 😖 this often happens when food is catered on set, it’s a tough one!), exploring a character I loved, working with people who pushed me to be better, building friendships. I was actually talking to my friend when I was suddenly overcome with a sense of contentment and happiness. Hahaha and then I very extra-ly took a photo for myself to remember. It doesn’t look “aesthetic”, and it definitely doesn’t have the “success aesthetic” hahaha, but this is what success feels like to me.

When I am firm in my contentment, when it doesn’t matter when people don’t understand it, when I can create from a place of peace, I think that, to me, is a type of success. Can’t say I’ve totally achieved that yet, but I can feel it slowly happening and I’m happy to see that with much more clarity. 🙂 #unicornmoment

Success is also seeing overall progress. What I hope to see change, is that artists won’t have to fight to be paid for their work, because people should get paid for their work. I also hope that pursuing a career in the arts won’t just be seen as someone “daring to pursue their passion”, but as something that is as essential to society as, say, a career in science.
